Each year 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental health challenge.

We can always benefit from some good advice. This is especially true when we’re going through a personal challenge. The MFAP offers short-term counselling to address everyday challenges, including the following:

  • Depression or anxiety after moving to a new city
  • Stress from starting a new job assignment
  • Alcohol or substance use
  • Help making friends in a new location
  • Job pressures
  • Marital or family conflict

What you can expect

This no-cost, short-term counselling service provides access to caring clinicians who will listen to your concerns and provide helpful advice and strategies to manage personal challenges. You can expect anywhere from three to six 60-minute sessions with your dedicated counsellor in person, over the phone or through video chat.

The goal of the counselling sessions is to provide useful advice to help you address the issues you may be facing. Those who benefit most from this service are experiencing important but short-term issues such as struggling with life changes like moving or starting a new job.

Short-term versus long-term support

If your situation requires longer-term support, your counsellor will encourage you to connect with an appropriate resource in the community. Visit the MHP Benefits page to learn about registered psychologist and social worker coverage.
