Two-Minute Talks

two-minute talks

Purpose:

Making Connections

Overview:

Learners share with a partner by brainstorming everything they already know about a skill, topic, or concept. As they do so, they activate prior knowledge and establish a foundation of knowledge in preparation for learning new information.

Procedure:

  1. Group learners into pairs. Decide who will talk first and second.
  2. Inform learners that they will each be talking about a specific topic for two minutes. Encourage the second person to listen closely as the first person speaks and to try to share new information about the topic when it is their turn to speak.
  3. Learners begin talking at the signal. At two minutes, direct learners to switch and the other partner begins talking.
  4. Invite learners to share key ideas from their sharing with the room.
