Multitype Library Board

One member required – Two-year term, renewable

The Multitype Library Board, established by The Libraries Co-operation Act, 1996, provides a forum for representatives from all types of Saskatchewan libraries to discuss ways to cooperate and enhance library services. The board is comprised of representatives from public, school, post-secondary, special libraries, and other information providers. School librarians play an important role in the development of the multitype system.

Potential candidates must be members of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation. In addition, pursuant to Section 4 of the Act, one member of the Board must be a library director from a school library or a school library system. Membership in the provincial professional growth network, Literacy Educators’ and Resources Network, will be considered an asset. The selected individuals are expected to consult with their sector (school libraries) to identify ways to further the objectives of the board.

Committee members are appointed by the Minister of Education. The Federation has been invited to nominate three names to the Ministry of Education for consideration.

The Board meets a minimum of three times a year, typically a full-day in-person meeting. Committee members’ roles include:

• Consult with the Federation to identify issues that may be relevant to all library sectors and bring these issues to the table.
• Provide direction and promote board activities.
• Advise and make recommendations on the development of the multitype library system.

As referenced in Clause 12.3.2 of the 2019-2023 Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, a teacher acting as an elected or appointed member of a committee of the Federation who attends a meeting called by the Federation, shall be granted leave and shall suffer no loss of salary and benefits during the course of an academic year for any days required to fulfil the duties of that office.

The Federation aims to engage as many members as possible in organizational operations. Preference will be given to those who do not currently hold other positions in office, committees or boards; however, members may apply for as many openings as desired.
