If you decide to resign due to retirement, it’s important to know that you’re not eligible for Members’ Health Plan benefits starting on the date that retirement benefits first become payable (your “retirement date”) under the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan or the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Superannuation Plan. If you continue to teach after retirement or return to teach under contract, health plan coverage will not be reinstated until the first school day following your retirement date, which can result in a gap in coverage.

The Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan provides health coverage for retired teachers that can be suspended if you return to work in retirement. For information visit www.sts.sk.ca.

Information Regarding Breathing Machines and Supplies
The Members’ Health Plan doesn’t provide coverage for breathing machines as they are available through the Saskatchewan Aids to Independent Living (SAIL) Respiratory Program. The SAIL program loans various types of breathing machines, such as CPAP, for a $275 program fee. The Members’ Health Plan will cover 80 percent of the cost of the program fee and subsequent supplies such as masking and tubing. Visit the SAIL website for complete program details.

Planning your Next Vacation?
The Members’ Health Plan provides you and your family with coverage for emergency medical expenses while travelling outside of Canada. Coverage is 100 percent to a maximum of $5 million per incident.

It’s important to know the details of your coverage before you travel. To learn more, view the Out-of-Country/Province Emergency Medical Benefits section of the MHP’s Benefits page. If you require further details, contact Green Shield at 1-888-711-1119.
