Supporting Elementary EAL Students Through Differentiation of Instruction and Assessment

Investigate how educators can support elementary EAL students in developing and demonstrating English language proficiency while engaging with grade-level outcomes and expectations.

Participants will:

  • Address misconceptions about English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Develop understanding about why students struggle academically when they appear to speak fluently.
  • Learn about the Common Framework of Reference (CFR) and how it can be used effectively to guide ELLs’ language learning.
  • Learn how to write language objectives and why they are important for ELLs.
  • Understand the importance of explicit instruction of academic vocabulary and learn how to choose and teach academic vocabulary.
  • Explore ways in which AI can be used as a support for teachers of ELLs.

Audience: Grades 1-6 educators with EAL students

Workshop Cost: (includes GST, materials and lunch)

Registration closes 2 business days prior to the event. Payment must accompany registration.  The refund deadline for all workshops and events is 10 business days prior to the start date. Registrants who withdraw prior to the refund deadline are entitled to a full refund or transfer of their registration fee.
