Used to Think, Now I Think

Purpose:

Assessing and Reflecting

Overview:

This process supports learners’ reflections about how their understanding or thinking has shifted after exploring or learning about a concept or idea.

Procedure:

  1. Invite learners to reflect on: 
    • something they thought prior to learning (I used to think…) and  
    • something they know or understand after learning (Now I think…). 

Materials:

Index cards or sticky notes or an exit slip or a graphic organizer such as Used to Think, Now I Think

Variations:

Combine with Think-Pair-Share
