Finding Common Ground

finding common ground

Purpose:

Building Relationships

Overview:

This process encourages learners to find and make interesting connections with one another.

Procedure:

  1. Learners work within table groups to identify as many non-obvious things that they have in common as possible in 3-5 minutes (e.g., they have all gone zip-lining; they have all had a broken bone; they have all played a practical joke on someone that backfired). The goal is to find three unusual or unexpected commonalities within the time frame.
  2. When the time is up, each group chooses one interesting commonality to share with the room.
  3. During sharing, invite other learners to raise their hand if they share the commonality.
