“I Notice, I Wonder” Brainstorm

Purpose:

Supporting Thinking

Additional Purpose(s):

Making Connections

Overview:
This process supports learners in identifying key and supporting information, especially as a prelude to problem-solving or as a support for understanding the story behind information or a task.

Procedure:

  1. Display information, a problem or a scenario. Ask learners: “What do you notice? What do you wonder?”
  2. Have learners brainstorm their notice and wonder statements individually or in small groups prior to sharing in a large group.
  3. As learners share their notices and wonders, record them in chart form (Notices/Wonders) so they are visible to all.
