Overview:

The construction of metaphors and analogies supports higher levels of thinking about ideas, concepts, or processes. Metaphors and analogies are comparisons between unlike things that have particular things in common.

Procedure:

  1. Introduce a new concept.
  2. Select something familiar that has some similar and some different characteristics from the new concept.
  3. Brainstorm how these things are the same and different.
  4. Summarize the similarities and differences.

Words, pictures, or videos can be used to create the analogy or metaphor.
