Walk and Talk

Purpose:

Supporting Thinking

Additional Purpose(s):

Generating and Sharing Ideas, Building Relationships

Overview:

This process provides a safe context for discussing ideas before sharing, discussing new ideas or content and making connections to past learning or experiences, synthesizing new learning, or applying learning to a new context.

Procedure:

  1. Pose a question or provide a prompt that invites discussion.
  2. Invite learners to walk around the room (or outside) and share their thinking in response to the question or prompt.
  3. Provide a time frame to learners for their discussions. When this time is up, ask them to rejoin the group.
  4. Invite pairs to share key ideas from their discussions with the large group.
