Referral for Preliminary Investigation
The preliminary investigation process is led by an independent contractor and may involve interviews with the complainant, respondent, witnesses and school officials. It is important that all relevant information be gathered for consideration in decision-making regarding the complaint.
Once the preliminary investigation is complete, a report is sent to the Professional Complaints Committee to inform the second step in the process of handling complaints. The Committee will review this additional information and provide a recommendation to the STF Executive. The Executive will decide to either:
- Refer the complaint for mediation.
- Refer the complaint to a disciplinary committee hearing.
- Close with no further action.
If during the course of an investigation or after completing the preliminary investigation, the STF Executive determines that the matter being investigated raises or potentially raises a question of professional misconduct or professional incompetence, it will immediately refer the matter to the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board.
